The Tories are, in my opinion, an awful party mired in cronyism and elitist policy. To suggest that anyone would be a better option is a dangerous comment however.
You are making the point that anyone who doesn’t vote along the same thought lines as you is an idiot. And you are using apocalyptic speech to bolster this argument. There is much wrong with U.K. society right now, and this current Government are complicit in many failings. But to suggest that it’s falling apart at the seams is not true. The Guardian (as you are aware, a left-wing newspaper) reported last week that the U.K. is predicted to have its highest growth period since WW2 in the second half of this year and unemployment rates are expected to be better than any previous economic downturn (as brought on by the pandemic), partly due to the extension of the furlough scheme.
As I say, I have no time for the Tories, am deeply opposed to Brexit, believe that Johnson, Gove and the rest are uncaring, self-interested charlatans who use government as a means to feather their own nests. But I also have no time for rhetoric that says anyone who doesn’t agree with me is therefore an idiot. This is one of the fundamental reasons Labour keep losing at national level.
The arguments have become tribal and hugely divisive (the Tories whip this up to their advantage, no question). Groups are too busy digging their heels in on arguments, refusing to listen to counter-arguments and just shouting down anyone who doesn’t agree with them (or calling them dumb, idiots, morons or deeply prejudiced in some way).
