Nice article Simon. I’m not voting because it’s like being asked to choose your favourite child :).

But I will say that there’s a lot in here that resonates. I have a particular emotional affinity to Star Wars (I’m a big yep to New Hope avoidance) as it not only had a defining role in my childhood, but also is the reason I love cinema to five decades later. In fact, you very kindly responded to my own piece about this a few years back: https://medium.com/cinemania/the-cinema-experience-why-moviegoing-matters-more-than-ever-dad76171db40 (shameless, I know).

Your take on the duel sunset scene is a powerful one, and delightfully written. And one in which I wholly agree. For me, it’s one THE great moments in cinema.

That it bred poor initiations was, I suppose, inevitable (pop music is no different) but as you say, that’s not the fault of the film maker and only goes to further emphasise its place and influence in cinema history. People chasing money will never tire of trying to bottle lightning or draining every last cent out of every good idea.

Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed the read.
